The By-election of Kukkiwon President (hereinafter referred to as Election of the President) will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

The Kukkiwon Election Commission (hereinafter referred to as the Election Commission) announced the date, etc., of the Election of the President on December 31.

In consideration of the current situation where the electoral college residing or staying overseas is unable to enter Korea due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Election of the President will be held via online voting.

Candidates can register at the Kukkiwon lecture room (32, Teheran-ro 7-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul) between Sunday, January 17, 2021 and Monday, January 18, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If a person who intends to register as a candidate does not submit the required documents according to the notice, the registration shall be invalid.

Among the required documents, the Candidate Recommendation, in particular, requires recommendations from 50-70 holders of Kukkiwon 4th Dan or above and must be submitted during registration.

The Candidate Recommendation must be in the form handed out by the Election Commission at the Election Commission Office, Kukkiwon between Monday, January 4, 2021 and Monday, January 18, 2021 (except on public holidays including Saturdays).

The campaign period lasts for 9 days from Tuesday, January 19, 2021 to Wednesday, January 27, 2021, and the campaigns must be conducted by the candidates themselves.

The only campaign methods available are via telephone (including text messages), e-mail, business card distribution, and election speech videos produced and posted on the Kukkiwon website or social media channels by the Election Commission.

The election speech videos will be filmed at designated locations for less than 10 minutes per candidate and produced and posted by the Election Commission.

The Election Commission plans to concentrate on regulating banned or restricted campaign practices by operating a Fair Election Support Team.

To help candidates understand the election process, the Election Commission will post a Guidance for Candidates (Electronic Document) on the Kukkiwon website from Monday, January 4, 2021 to Friday, January 15, 2021.
