The deadline for the resignation of prospective candidates for the Kukkiwon presidential by-election is confirmed.

The approval of the new articles of association on Wednesday, December 9, has enforced the amendments to Regulation on the President Election Management (hereinafter referred to as the Election Regulation), and the deadline for the resignation of prospective candidates with restrictions for the presidential election has settled to Monday, December 21.

The Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo, Korea Taekwondo Association, Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, Taekwondo 9th Dan Federation, Korea Taekwondo Association for the Disabled, Korea Women Taekwondo Federation, and other affiliated organizations\' executives and employees wishing to register as a candidate for the presidential election (by-election) must resign within 10 days from the fixed date of grounds for holding, according to the Election Regulation.

In conclusion, the executives and employees of Taekwondo-related organization, as stipulated in the Election Regulation, must resign from their post by Monday, December 21, in order to register as the candidate for the presidential election.

The “Civil Act” applies to the deadline for resignation; the start date is excluded, and the end date falls on a Saturday and a public holiday, thus setting the deadline to the following Monday.

The Kukkiwon Election Commission sent official documents to the relevant organizations and notified related content on the Kukkiwon website.

Kukkiwon held “13th Temporary Meeting of Board of Council in 2020” at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, in the Kukkiwon lecture room. The amendments to the Articles of Association, Regulation on the Director Recommendation Committee, and Regulation on President Election Management have been reviewed and decided, and interim measures regarding the fixed date of grounds for holding has been put into the “additional provisions” of the Election Regulation.

③ In case of the registration as a candidate by the executives and staff member of Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Federation, the Korea Taekwondo Association, the Taekwondo Promotion Federation, Kukkiwon Taekwondo 9th Dan Federation, Korea Taekwondo Association for the Disabled, Korea Women Taekwondo Federation and affiliated body, who may have direct influence on the president election, he/she shall resign from offices not later than 3 months prior to the expiration date of the president: Provided, That, when registering as a candidate for reelection and special election, he/she shall resign from offices within 10 days the date of grounds for holding is fixed. However, in the case of candidate registration for re-election or by-election, must resign from the post within 10 days from the fixed date of grounds for holding; when the formation of Election Commission is delayed due to special reasons such as natural disaster or the influx of infectious disease, must resign from the post within 10 days from the date determined by the Election Commission.

- Additional Provisions for Regulation on President Election Management

Article 1 (Date of Implemendation) These regulations shall be enforced from the day the articles of association decided by the Board of Councils are approved by the Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Article 2 (Interim Measures of the Fixed Date of Grounds for Holding) Article 1 of the additional provisions applies to the president election when the fixed date of grounds for holding occur on Aug. 18. 2020.
